Our Approach.

Eudaemonia Behavioral Health is founded on the philosophy that individuals thrive when they are intentionally pursuing meaningful engagement. That being; making choices aligned with their values. This includes allowing room for unavoidable experiences of discomfort and pain, while participating in the moment from a position of personal awareness and acceptance. Our goal for individuals using our services is to feel supported in learning and applying the skills and strategies associated with intentional living.

Our Team.

Eudaemonia Behavioral Health is composed of brother & sister clinical team, Michael and Danée. They joined forces with Ashley, who brings the operational expertise. We came together as co-founders and owners of Eudaemonia Behavioral Health to create an accessible community resource when it comes to behavioral health services. Our team has a collective experience of 27 years in behavioral medicine. We use this experience to be holistic in our approach. This is from your first steps into the practice, through your treatment.

Our Stories.

Michael Herman, PsyD

Dr. Michael Herman, PsyD, is a licensed psychologist with a focus in clinical and health psychology. His practice has always emphasized the importance of utilizing the interplay between cognitive and physical functions. Our mind, thoughts and emotions, influence the body and the body influences the mind. There is no separating them, so we include both in treatment. This focus comes not only from his training but from an extensive history of clinical practice in integrated and multidisciplinary settings.

Dr. Herman completed his doctorate in clinical psychology at Loma Linda University in southern California. Just prior he completed a masters degree in general and theoretical psychology through Fairleigh Dickinson, and his bachelors degree in psychology and philosophy at Pomona College. As a part of his doctoral degree he completed a one-year internship at Spark M. Matsunaga VA, a part of the Pacific Islands Healthcare System, in Honolulu, HI. His year long post-doctoral residency was completed at Geisinger Medical Center. Both his internship and postdoctoral placements were focused on integrated and multidisciplinary engagements.

Dr. Herman focuses largely on utilizing tools, strategies, and interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This foundation emphasizes the role of personal values as the hub of emotional and cognitive response and reactivity, while emphasizing patterns in language, behaviors, and perceived meaning as vital in effective coping and navigation of life circumstances. In terms of areas of speciality, Dr. Herman especially enjoys working with individuals in their experiences of anxiety, chronic illness (such as pain, sleep challenges, and health status adjustment), and trauma experiences. When it comes to treating trauma, Dr. Herman follows the research and modality set forth under Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). In all his approaches, the engagement is collaborative, skills building inclusive, and emphasizes effective navigation of symptoms and circumstances. This approach is opposed to a more rigid “symptom elimination” approach to wellness.

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Herman co-founded a clinical training program for the Samaritan Health Services entity based in Corvallis, OR. He is published in the area of behavioral pain management, focusing on the role of catastrophizing. He has spoken at Pain Summit events in Oregon, emphasizing function focused coping. He has participated in the Distinguished Gentleman’s ride for mens mental health; a motorcycle event that takes place across the nation annually. He enjoys addressing the stigma of what mental and behavioral health is, what associated treatment is capable of, and providing accessible, accurate, and practical education to the community in these areas.

In his personal life, Dr. Herman enjoys time with his family. He rides his motorcycle. He enjoys outdoor activities and creative DIY ventures. In his quieter times, reading a good fictional novel is at the top of his list. He considers Oregon and the PNW in general to be his home, despite having enjoyed traveling to and visiting a variety of other places and countries.

Danée Herman, LCSW

Danée Herman is a licensed clinical social worker. She received her master degree in social work from the University of Denver after a career in Montessori Education for just under a decade. Since her transition to social work, Danée has worked in a variety of settings that include outpatient care, hospital care and emergency department crisis evaluation, school based practice, and now private practice. Her approach emphasizes the client as the expert in their experience, her role is to collaborate with individuals to identify how best she can support them in their journey navigating and fostering mental wellness. Danée draws from a variety of evidence based practices, with a focus on tools and strategies from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She approaches each person with genuine interest in how they can work together. Areas of focus include depression, anxiety, and adjustment to life’s many transitions such as grief and loss, retirement, aging, new or existing medical conditions.

Danée spent most of her childhood on a Christmas tree farm here in Oregon. She moved to Denver, Colorado for her undergraduate studies and lived there for just under 20 years. Her undergraduate degree was in International Studies with an emphasis on Gender Studies and Environmental Science. Throughout her time living in Colorado, she spent brief stints living in Austria, Costa Rica, and finally spent some time living on a commune in Hawaii. She moved back to Oregon with her husband in 2022 where they settled in Corvallis to grow their family. She enjoys spending time with her family. She can also be found enjoying the outdoors, throwing pottery, reading a good novel, or attending a pilates class in her free time!

Ashley Anderson, Office Manager

Ashley Anderson has held a variety of professional roles throughout her career, but she has always had an affinity for helping reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.  When she realized how passionate she was about connecting with and supporting patients who were seeking behavioral health care, she knew she wanted to deepen her understanding of the field and how she could make a greater impact in her community.

While working full time in an integrated healthcare setting, Ashley returned to school and earned her bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration through Western Governor's University. Her experience while working alongside patients and behavioral health providers has given her a unique perspective on the importance of accessible mental health care and the difference that having the right support can make. Throughout her career, Ashley has learned that commitment, communication, and supporting others are incredibly important to her.

When she's not in the office, Ashley can usually be found curled up in her favorite chair reading, making way through one of the many books on her ever-growing to-be-read list. She enjoys spending time with her husband and their two cats, playing games, and baking something delicious. When seeking an outdoor adventure, her favorite options are kayaking and searching for agates along the Oregon Coast.
